I'm my sister's keeper

...But in a different way. My sister hardly ever does her work without asking me to do it for her first and usually I do. Last year it was more poems or writing assignments, this year it's ideas for scripts and almost doing the whole script for her. Though that's partially my fault, I don't want her ruining my idea so i do it for her, just in case. She's always been the childish one, no matter what the situation.

Cool places

There are a lot of cool places in America. There're mountains, beaches, forests, and national monuments. But there's one place more than anything that I'd want to travel in America, a place I'm going this weekend. I want to, and can't wait to, travel to Las Vegas. Not for the slots, the gambling, or the other adult things, but for the amazing shows.
Las Vegas up all night long. There're pleanty shows and shops and resturants you could go to. Chris angel, a famous magician does shows there. Chris Angel is amazing, he makes his tricks look real and he's extremely attractive. It's like a double show. You're entertained by his magic tricks and you get to watch him be all attractive. I hear he's also extremely nice, it's not just an act. I'd say above anyone, That man would be my famous person crush.
Las Vegas also has a bunch of plays. The one we're going to see is Phantom of the Opera. Phantom of the opera is centered around a girl and two men. One of the men had a birth defect so his face is all messed up. The girl is a beautiful opera singer and the other man is her fiance. The "Phantom" Is jealous of her Fiance and plans on taking her for his own. It's said to be best played in Las Vegas.

Into the Wild

The book, "Into the wild" by Chris McCandless is about a man who decides to do something with his life. He wants to explore, sight see, and live off his instincts. He decides to climb all the way up to the top of a mountain. The book starts by finding his body in an abandoned bus and they use his journal and his pictures to tell the story of this brave man's life. He lived about 119 days until finally dying due to what they believe to be poison. They think he attempted to eat the seed of a plant called a "Eskimo potato" which has alkaloid which is very poisonous. Soon after he died, leaving nothing but a journal and a few pictures to depict his adventure.

I don't think I'll like this book very much. though it sounds interesting, I'm not really into these types of books. Our last book, I think, is going to be my favorite book of the year. Though I don't really believe I'm going to like it, I'll keep an open mind. Who knows? It could end up being my favorite book of all time.

Orange, waiting for death.

Orange, waiting for death
In “The mask of the read death,” there is a hallway made up of seven rooms,  blue, purple, green, orange, white, violet, and black. By Edgar Allen Poe, My color is orange, the fourth room in the hallway.
My color symbolizes many things. The middle of life, the revelation of one’s death being closer than it seems, yet happiness and warmth. These colors are shown as your whole life, from birth to death. Orange is in the middle so it would be the middle of one’s life, but it could just be, as I said before, the realization that you’re not invisible and you will die. It could also mean to liven things up when your life gets too boring. Usually when one is in the middle of their life, they go through what is called a “Midlife crisis.” This would also be around the time where one gives birth and has to raise a child and show warmth to the child, going back to my Idea of warmth and happiness.
Life is important and cherished, death is feared and hated. When my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I realized my family wasn’t invincible. I had dreams of watching my mom being taken away by the grim reaper and I would go into her room and stay with her as long as possible to make sure she wasn’t “Taken away,” before I could say goodbye. I’d put her to bed like she put me to bed and I’d try, and fail, at making her dinner. It was the time I realized death could come at any moment and really, we were all in our orange stage in life, free and happy yet awaiting for death at any moment. Though this experience made me fear for the life of my loved ones and show no one was superman, it also made me cherish and love the life we had. We are always in the orange room, always chasing the grim reaper unknowingly.

Schizophrenia

  Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder, in which patients suffer from a number of symptoms which inhibit regular human behavior and interactions in day to day life. Despite skeptics of this chronic disease the afflicted cope with irregularities of the mind.
Some symptoms of schizophrenia are very subtle, and others are symptoms for other diseases, so it's very hard to diagnose an authentic case of schizophrenia. The first symptoms of schizophrenia would be, social withdraw, depression, paranoia, or no emotions. Also there's over sleeping or insomnia, forgetfulness or extreme reactions. As the article, understanding schizophrenia said, "There are five types of symptom characteristics of schizophrenia.(Melinda Smith, M.A. and Robert Segal, M.A.)
"Delusions hallucinations, disorganizes speech, disorganized behavior, and the so called 'negative symptoms.'"  Delusions may come later on in many shapes or forms but most common are delusions of being manipulated by an outside force such as the government or the CIA. Of course there's the most known symptom of schizophrenia, hallucinations. Hallucinations are when the diseased see and hear things that aren't there. Sometimes they can even feel them too.  Disorganized speech may mean a few things. Usually the patient will say bits of sentences or not be able to finish a thought. This is because he or she cannot concentrate on a specific thing, skipping from one thought to another. Disorganized behavior is somewhat the same, they won't be able to keep their mind set on one thing. They'll skip around and do different things. They're also horrible at multi-tasking. Negative symptoms are symptoms that usually have to do with their personality. Their personality will get morphed enormously. A once bright and cheerful person will become dull and have no real emotional reaction.(Melinda Smith, M.A. and Robert Segal, M.A.)
Until October 2006, most medicines weren't very effective, if at all. Ly2140023 is the medicine that helped other doctors figure out better treatments for the disease. The result not only helped their treatment for schizophrenia, but also Alzheimer's, depression, and other mental illnesses. Medicine for schizophrenia was first developed accidentally around 50 years ago. Even with the help of the new medical technologies and all the scientific break throughs, we still know hardly nothing about Schizophrenia. "So far though, No medicine can help the symptoms of social withdraw,"(Berenson, Alex)
as the article, "Knowing schizophrenia." Said,  "The causes of schizophrenia are not fully known, however it appears that schizophrenia usually results from a complex interaction between genetic and environmental factors, "There are three types of schizophrenia. Depending on the severity of the illness, and the type of schizophrenia, The diseased may have a higher chance of living a normal life. Sometimes their hallucinations even help them, by giving them someone to talk to and a feel that they're still connected to other people, even if it's not entirely true. It helps them deal with other people better.   The first type of schizophrenia is paranoid schizophrenia. Like it sounds, the person unlucky enough to be diagnosed with this type becomes very paranoid. It gives them absurd or suspicious ideas, Like someone's out to kill them, aliens are attacking, or the government's tracking their thoughts. Then there's cationic schizophrenia, what I think to be the worst type. It's a disturbance in movement, be it decreasing or increasing movements. I could also make one have jerky or unexpected flailing. Sometimes it looks like one is having a stroke. Lastly there would be disorganized schizophrenia. This type impairs communication skills. Such as saying or doing things that are illogical or just odd. It can also mean emotional indifference or laughing and crying at strange times.(Melinda Smith, M.A. and Robert Segal, M.A.)
mental diseases are very real and very serious, It shouldn't be taken lightly. Though the mind is not an organ it can be damaged. The symptoms are that of other diseases. It's not as if someone can just make up hallucinations or multiple personalities on the spot. All though mental illnesses have gotten out of hand throughout the years due to the public's unnecessary need to diagnose    any abnormalities they may have. For example, insomnia, depression, and more. People need to find reason in everything that they do, and if that means dramatizing a 'condition,' so be it. But there are some legitimate cases that need to be cared for. (Vatz, Richard E.)
"For the vast majority of untoward behaviors labeled as mental illness,…, that they are freely chosen behaviors for which the agent must take responsibility," Says the article, "The quandary over mental illness." Some people like doctor Szaz, say there is no such thing as mental illness because the mind is not an organ. Though there can be a brain dysfunction or disease, it is not the mind. The famous doctor Is known as the personified anti-psychiatry. He says if he labels one with schizophrenia, someone else with the same symptoms would have to be labeled so too, even if there were slight differences for any way.( Vatz, Richard E.)
Despite the fact it may be difficult to properly diagnose mental disorders, such a schizophrenia that have an array of different behavioral abnormalities it is a serious disease that is, as of yet untreatable and may be difficult for family and friends to cope with. However, science is always making advances and there may be one day when we can effectively manage and treat schizophrenia.

Berenson, Alex. "Daring to think differently about schizophrenia." New your times Feb. 24, 2008, p. BU.1
  • Until October 2006, most medicine for schizophrenia did little to none.
  • The new drug was called ly2130023
  • "The Lilly results have fueled a wave of pharmaceutical industry research into glutamate. Companies are searching for new treatments not just for schizophrenia but also for depression and Alzheimer's disease…" Page 2
  • Affects 2.5 million Americans
  • 1% of the world population
  • First medicines developed accidentally
  • Early medicines didn't help with negative symptoms
  • " 'people say that there are drugs to treat schizophrenia,' says Dr. Carol A. Tamminga,…. 'In fact, the treatment for schizophrenia is at best partial and inadequate. You have a cadre of cognitively impaired people who can't fit in"
  • Street drug "phencyclidine" helped doctors understand how schizophrenia worked since the side effects for said drug were symptoms of schizophrenia

Schizophrenia questions

These are my shizophrenia questions.

How many different Shizophrenia types are there?

What are the differences between each shizophrenia type?

Why is it so common for someone to think they have shizophrenia, but infact, they don't?

Schizophrenia

I will be researching a mental illness called schizophrenia. Seven search terms are,  "What is schizophrenia, symptoms, causes, effects, number of children that are diagnosed, number of actual cases of it,"  and "number of adults diagnosed,"  this topic related to my book because the mother has what I believe to be schizophrenia and because of the symptoms and It's effects, she becomes a horrible mother, and a threat to society. The image that best represents my topic is above. It depicts a girl with multiples of herself around her, yelling at her.( I got this picture from http://blogs.monografias.com/sistema-limbico-neurociencias/2010/06/27/want-to-know-about-paranoid-schizophrenia/) These are, what I’d assume to be hallucinations. I believe she’s black and white because she’s being drained of all her energy. I'm quite happy I've gotten this topic. I've aspired to b a physiatrist for a few years now. I want to help the sickest people, study them, and get into their brain to see why exactly these things happen. I've found psychology very interesting for a while and I can't wait until senior year so I can take it.
schizophrenia has many different symptoms such as, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganized thoughts, and depression. These are only a few of the most common symptoms. There are three different types of schizophrenia, disorganized schizophrenia, paranoid schizophrenia, and cationic schizophrenia. Most causes of schizophrenia is unknown but scientists believe it's due to different kinds of trauma. Though I don’t know as much about schizophrenia as the specialists, I have to wonder, why is it so hard to find out the causes of this mental illness? What makes it so different than the others? I do not have an ‘opinion’ per say, simply questions.
